Assistant Plant Manager
JOB SUMMARY:
Joy Baking Group, a world leader in ice cream cone, cookie, and wafer baking, has an Assistant Plant Manager position open at its Le Mars, IA cone manufacturing facility. This position will be responsible for supporting the Plant Manager in ensuring the safe and efficient management of this 157,000 square foot baking plant and 24,000 square foot packaging plant. This plant currently consists of 18 lines that manufacture sugar cones for the industrial sales market as well as 14 lines for sleeve production. The facility is a 24/5 operation consisting of over 150 team members.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in management of the manufacturing operations of the plant in a safe and efficient manner
Work with leadership and HR to support, manage, and grow facility personnel
Work directly with the Plant Manager to support operational activities and to achieve strategic goals
Assist in the implementation of capital projects in support of company and facility goals for efficiency, growth, and employee safety
Oversee statistical processes to drive continuous improvements in all areas of the plant operation
Perform other duties as directed by supervisor
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Must be able to speak, listen and effectively communicate with team members and actively participate in and effectively lead team/department meetings and initiatives
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills required with the ability to successfully interact at all levels of the organization
Able to analyze / interpret technical information, mathematical concepts, and form conclusions
Detail oriented with strong organizational skills with the ability to work well under pressure
Able to gather, organize, compile and summarize data
Follow direction and perform assigned work duties independently with minimal supervision
Involves extensive computer systems/software operation and regular use of office equipment
Must be able to sit for prolonged periods with frequent repetitive hand motions for keyboard and mouse use and occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, and lifting/carrying of less than 15 pounds
Position is essentially sedentary with occasional standing, walking, lifting
Must have ability to climb stairs and access all areas of the office and plant
Adherence to the company attendance policy is required, including expectations of punctuality and limited unapproved absences
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: 5+ years of experience in food manufacturing, baking experience preferred
Strongly Preferred: College degree
Must understand and have full knowledge of production process and floor equipment
Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
Outstanding communication and people skills
Knowledge of industry regulations and guidelines
In depth knowledge of diverse business functions and principles
Working knowledge of performance/operation metrics
Familiarity with MS Office and applicable business software
